Jesus Christ: The Eternal King

Jesus Christ is not merely a historical figure or a prophet; the Bible consistently portrays Him as the Sovereign King—the rightful ruler of all creation, both now and forevermore. His kingship is fundamentally different from that of earthly monarchs. While He initially came in humility as a suffering servant, His identity is rooted in the divine, as He is the Son of God and the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies given to King David, promising a throne that would endure eternally. His rule is absolute, extending over every nation, authority, and power, and His kingdom is defined by righteousness, justice, and peace (Romans 14:17). He demonstrated this authority by forgiving sins, controlling nature, and ultimately conquering death through His resurrection. Though He presently reigns from heaven, He will one day return in glory to establish His visible, everlasting reign, where “every knee should bow… and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10-11)

Revelation 1:5

and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,

Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.

Revelation 19:16

16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords.

Revelation 17:14

14 They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”
